The tensile strength of Monel 400 alloy pipes is in the range of 517-620 MPa, yield strength 172-345% that makes it an ideal steel grade. It has nickel up to 40-50%, 34% copper, 2.5% iron, manganese up to 2%, and less than 1% silicon and carbon elements. The monel 400 alloys are known as super alloy and are available in different standards of shapes such as hexagon, round, tube, pipe, strip, sheet, and wire. The standards of Monel 400 are AMS 4574, AMS 4675, AMS 4731, ASTM B163, ASTM B165, ASTM F96, UNS N04400, etc.

The machinability of Monel 400 can be challenging due to work hardening during machining. Although the conventional machining works well when applied on iron alloys used for this alloy. The welding methods for this grade include metal-arc-welding, submerged-arc-welding, and others are the suggestions for this alloy. Controlled procedures perform the forging of Monel 400. Hot-working can take place in the range of 648-1176 degrees celsius. However, cold workings are only used for the soft die materials for complete finishes. After the formability, the annealing for this grade should be done at 926 degrees celsius.

Marine fixtures, pumps, valves and piping systems for seawater applications, Chemical plant equipment, Frames for eyeglasses, Aerospace applications, Musical instruments are the applications for the monel 400 alloy.
